Luna was a little grey cat with bright green eyes. She loved to play! Her favorite thing in the whole wide world was her collection of colorful yarn balls. She had a bright red one, a sunny yellow one, a sky blue one, and a sparkly purple one. Luna loved to bat them around, chase them under the furniture, and pounce on them with glee. She thought they were the *best* toys ever.
One sunny afternoon, a tiny little mouse named Pip peeked into Luna’s cozy room. Pip was very shy, but he couldn’t help but notice the beautiful yarn balls. He’d never seen anything so colorful and fun! He squeaked a little hello, but Luna, busy batting her red yarn ball, didn’t notice.
Pip gathered his courage and squeaked a little louder. “Hello?” Luna finally looked up, surprised. “Oh! Hello,” she said. “Who are you?” “I’m Pip,” the little mouse replied. “Those are lovely yarn balls. May I… may I play with one?”
Luna’s whiskers twitched. Play with *her* yarn balls? She hugged her purple yarn ball close. “Um… I don’t know,” she mumbled. “These are *my* toys. I don’t usually share.” Pip’s little face fell. He looked so sad that Luna felt a tiny pang in her heart.
Luna watched Pip slowly turn to leave. She started to play with her yarn ball again, but it didn’t feel as fun anymore. She kept thinking about Pip’s sad face. She realized that having all the toys in the world wasn’t much fun if she had no one to play with.
“Wait!” Luna called out. Pip turned around, hopeful. Luna took a deep breath. “You can play with the yellow one,” she said, gently pushing the yellow yarn ball towards Pip. Pip’s eyes lit up! “Really? Oh, thank you, Luna!”
Pip and Luna spent the rest of the afternoon playing together. Pip pushed the yellow yarn ball with his nose, and Luna batted it with her paws. They chased it around the room, giggling and having a wonderful time. Luna discovered that playing *with* a friend was much more fun than playing alone.
Luna learned that sharing her toys didn’t make her have less fun; it made her have *more* fun! She and Pip became the best of friends, and they always made sure to share everything. From that day on, Luna understood that kindness and sharing could bring the greatest joy of all. And as the sun set, Luna and Pip curled up together, happy and content, dreaming of more playful adventures to come.
