Pip was a little cumulus cloud, fluffy and white as freshly fallen snow. He loved playing hide-and-seek amongst his bigger, grayer friends, the stratus clouds. One night, as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink, Pip felt a little lonely.
He drifted away from the other clouds, feeling a bit like a lost sheep. He bumped into a wispy cirrus cloud, so high and thin it looked like a feather. 'Hello,' Pip whispered, his voice like a gentle breeze.
The cirrus cloud, whose name was Nimbus, giggled. 'Hello, little one! Why so far from the others?'
Pip explained how he'd felt a bit lonely and had drifted off to explore. Nimbus, being very wise for an old cirrus cloud, smiled. 'Exploring is wonderful! But friends make exploring even better.'
Nimbus showed Pip all sorts of amazing things: shimmering stars, a sleepy owl gliding silently through the night, and even a shooting star! Pip had never seen so many wonders.
They met a fluffy cumulonimbus cloud, much bigger than Pip, who was busy making rain for the thirsty flowers down below. Pip learned that even though the cumulonimbus cloud looked stormy, it was actually very kind and helpful.
As the moon climbed high in the sky, casting a silvery glow on everything, Pip felt happy and content. He'd made two new friends and had the most amazing adventure. He learned that even though being different is fun, friendship makes everything better.
Nimbus and the cumulonimbus cloud promised to play with Pip again soon, and they all drifted towards the other clouds. Pip snuggled close to his friends, feeling warm and safe. He realized that even though he’d been a little scared and lonely at first, exploring had led him to wonderful new friendships.
As the first rays of dawn peeked over the horizon, Pip drifted off to sleep, dreaming of more nighttime adventures with his new friends. And as you close your eyes tonight, remember Pip’s adventure and remember that even little clouds can have big adventures with the help of their friends.
