Luna loved looking up at the clouds. Every night, before bedtime, she’d lie on the grass with her mama and try to find shapes in the fluffy white forms. Sometimes she saw dragons, sometimes giant bunnies, and sometimes… well, sometimes she couldn’t see anything at all, and that was okay too!
One night, a little cloud drifted closer to Luna. It wasn’t a big, booming thundercloud, but a small, shy puff. “Hello,” whispered Luna. To her surprise, the cloud wobbled and a tiny voice replied, “H-hello.”
“You can talk!” Luna giggled. “What’s your name?”
“I… I don’t really have a name,” the cloud said sadly. “I just float around. Sometimes I try to look like things, but I’m not very good at it.”
Luna smiled. “That’s okay! You don’t *have* to be good at anything. Just being you is wonderful. I’m Luna!”
“Luna,” the cloud repeated, sounding happier. “That’s a pretty name. I like watching you imagine things. You see so much!”
“It’s fun!” Luna said. “Let’s imagine together! What do *you* want to be?”
The little cloud puffed itself up and tried very hard. It wiggled and wobbled, but it didn’t quite look like anything. It looked a little bit like a lumpy sheep, and a little bit like a squished ice cream cone.
Luna burst out laughing, a happy, tinkling sound. “You’re a wonderfully wobbly sheep-cone!” she declared. “It’s perfect!”
The cloud giggled too, a soft, breezy sound. “I am?”
“You are!” Luna said. “And you know what? It doesn’t matter what shape you are. You’re still a cloud, and you’re still my friend.”
More clouds began to drift closer, curious about the laughter. They weren’t perfect shapes either – one was long and stringy, another was round and bumpy. But Luna didn’t mind. She made friends with all of them, admiring their unique cloudiness.
As Luna yawned, she felt very peaceful. The clouds glowed softly in the moonlight. “It’s time for me to go to sleep now,” she said. “But I’ll see you tomorrow!”
“Sweet dreams, Luna,” whispered the little cloud. “And remember, even if you can’t see shapes, the clouds are always there, watching over you.”
Luna closed her eyes, feeling safe and happy. She knew that even when she couldn’t see them, her fluffy cloud friends were always nearby, floating in the night sky, ready for another adventure.
