Leo was a little blue cube. He lived in a land filled with round balls, tall triangles, and wiggly rectangles. Sometimes, Leo felt sad. He wasn’t bouncy like the balls, pointy like the triangles, or bendy like the rectangles. “I wish I was different,” he’d sigh, rolling slowly across the playroom floor.
One night, it was almost bedtime. All the shapes were getting ready for sleep. The balls were bouncing gently, the triangles were standing very still, and the rectangles were stretching out long and flat. But Leo couldn’t seem to get comfortable. He tried to bounce, but he just tumbled. He tried to stand pointy, but he wobbled and fell.
A friendly yellow ball named Bob noticed Leo looking sad. “What’s wrong, Leo?” he asked, bouncing closer. Leo explained how he wished he could be more like the other shapes. Bob smiled. “But Leo,” he said, “being a cube is *wonderful*! You can stack really well, and you have neat corners for building!”
A tall red triangle, Tilly, chimed in. “And you’re so good at being a steady base for our towers!” A long green rectangle, Reggie, added, “You’re perfect for making strong walls!” Leo had never thought about his cube-ness as a good thing before.
Suddenly, the playroom lights dimmed. It was bedtime! Bob, Tilly, and Reggie started to build a cozy little fort. They used Leo as the strong base. The fort was perfect! It was sturdy and safe, and Leo felt so proud to be a part of it.
Inside the fort, they all snuggled close. Leo realized that being different wasn’t bad at all. He was special *because* he was a cube. He was strong, steady, and a great friend. He wasn’t bouncy or pointy or bendy, and that was okay!
As Leo drifted off to sleep, he smiled. He was a little blue cube, and he was perfect just the way he was. And that’s a very good thing to remember when you close your eyes tonight, too. You are perfect just the way *you* are.
