The sun dipped low, painting the sky with gentle swirls of orange and purple and pink. Little David watched from his window, his eyes starting to feel just a *little* bit sleepy. He knew what came next – his special, cozy bedtime routine! It was time to get ready for a night of sweet dreams. A warm, sleepy feeling began to spread from his toes all the way up to his nose.
First things first! David helped tidy up his toys. He carefully lined up his little toy cars in their garage spot and tucked his building blocks away neatly in their colorful box. Putting his things away felt like saying goodnight to each one. Everything was peaceful and quiet now, ready for sleeping.
Next came the splashing fun! David went to the bathroom sink. He washed his hands with bubbly soap, making happy little foam castles. Then, with his tiny toothbrush, he brushed his teeth so gently, up and down, side to side, getting rid of all the daytime munchies. His teeth looked extra bright and sparkly.
Now, for the best part – pajamas! David’s favorite pajamas were blue with soft, fluffy clouds on them. He slipped into the warm, comfy fabric. Ahh, they felt so good! Like a gentle hug wrapped all around him. He did a little wiggle dance, feeling perfectly cozy.
With his pajamas on, it was time for quiet snuggles. David picked up his softest friend, Barnaby Bear. They went to the comfy chair for a little cuddle. Sometimes, Mom or Dad would read a small, quiet story. Other times, they just looked out the window at the big, friendly moon beginning its night journey across the dark sky. "Goodnight, sleepy moon," whispered David softly.
Finally, it was time for the coziest place of all – David’s warm bed. He climbed in and snuggled down deep under his favorite soft blanket. His pillow was just right, soft and fluffy. Barnaby Bear found his spot right beside him, ready for dreaming.
David closed his eyes. He took a deep, slow breath in through his nose, like smelling a pretend flower. Then, he let the air out slowly through his mouth, like blowing a soft bubble. In... and out... His body felt heavy and relaxed in the warm bed. Every little part of him felt peaceful and calm.
He imagined soft, sleepy things. Maybe floating on a gentle river of warmth, or watching tiny, quiet stars twinkle just for him. The room was dark and quiet, just right for sleep. The sleepy feeling was now big and strong, pulling him into dreamland.
Sleepy, sleepy David, cozy and warm in his bed. Drifting, drifting off to sleep, where sweet dreams waited for him. Peaceful sleep, restful sleep. Goodnight, goodnight, little David. Sleep well and have the happiest, gentlest dreams.
