Once upon a time, in a cozy little house nestled amongst rolling green hills, lived a girl named Lily. Lily loved to be lazy. She loved to lie on her fluffy rug, staring at the clouds drifting by. She loved to swing on her porch swing, watching butterflies flutter past. Most of all, she loved doing absolutely nothing.
One sunny afternoon, as Lily lay on her rug, she heard a tiny squeak. "Lily, help!" cried a little voice. It was Rosie, her favorite teddy bear. Rosie's button eye was dangling by a thread. "Oh Rosie," sighed Lily. "Sewing your eye back on sounds like so much work."
Just then, she heard a clatter. It was Barnaby, her brave wooden soldier. He had tripped and broken his arm! "Lily, a little glue would fix me right up!" he cried. Lily groaned. "Getting the glue is such a chore," she mumbled.
Suddenly, a soft whimper reached her ears. It was Fluffy, her cuddly sheep. Fluffy had lost her fluff! "Lily, could you please stuff me again?" she begged. "Oh Fluffy," Lily whined. "Stuffing you sounds so tiring!"
Lily looked around at her sad toys. Rosie's eye drooped sadly. Barnaby's arm hung limp. Fluffy looked deflated and droopy. Suddenly, Lily felt a pang in her heart. She didn't like seeing her friends so unhappy. "Alright," she said, jumping up. "Let's fix you all up!"
Lily carefully sewed Rosie's button eye back on, making it even shinier than before. She glued Barnaby's arm, making him stronger than ever. And she gently stuffed Fluffy, making her fluffy and cuddly once more.
When she was finished, Rosie, Barnaby, and Fluffy were overjoyed. "Thank you, Lily!" they cheered. Lily felt a warm glow spread through her. Helping her friends hadn't been a chore at all. It had felt good!
From that day on, Lily wasn't quite so lazy anymore. She learned that helping others brought more joy than doing nothing at all. She helped her mom set the table, she helped her dad water the garden, and she even helped her little brother tie his shoes. And every night, surrounded by her happy toys, Lily drifted off to sleep, knowing that helping others made her the happiest of all.
