Once upon a time, there were three little pigs. They grew bigger and bigger, and soon it was time for them to build their own homes. The first little pig was very playful and wanted to finish quickly so he could play all day. He gathered straw and quickly built a little house. “This will do just fine!” he squealed.
The second little pig wasn’t quite as quick to play. He thought a little more strength was needed. He gathered sticks and built a house of sticks. It was a bit stronger than the straw house, but still quite quick to build. “Good enough!” he said, and went off to find some berries.
The third little pig was the most thoughtful of all. He knew his house needed to be very strong to keep him safe. He decided to build his house out of bricks. It took a long, long time! He carefully laid each brick, one by one, mixing the mortar just right. His brothers laughed at him for working so hard.
“Why are you taking so long?” called the first little pig. “Come and play!” The third little pig just smiled and kept working. Finally, his brick house was finished. It was strong and sturdy and looked very cozy.
Soon, a big, bad wolf came along. He went to the straw house and huffed and puffed and blew it down! The first little pig ran to the stick house. The wolf followed and huffed and puffed and blew the stick house down too! Both little pigs ran as fast as they could to the brick house.
The wolf huffed and puffed and huffed and puffed at the brick house, but it wouldn’t budge! The brick house was too strong. The wolf tried to climb down the chimney, but the third little pig had a pot of water boiling on the stove. Splash! The wolf landed right in the hot water and ran away, yelping!
The three little pigs were safe and sound in the brick house. The first two little pigs realized that taking the time to build something strong was very important. They helped their brother repair the straw and stick houses with bricks, making them strong too.
That night, the three little pigs snuggled together in the warm, safe brick house. They were happy they had a home that protected them, and they all drifted off to sleep, dreaming sweet dreams. Remember, little ones, taking the time to do things well and planning ahead will always keep you safe and sound, just like the three little pigs!
