The Frog Prince: A Tale of Kindness

3 min read ・ Age 6

Princess Amara loved playing in her garden, but she was also a bit of a snob. She thought everyone who wasn't as elegant as she was, was quite simply beneath her.

One sunny afternoon, while exploring the hidden pond at the edge of the garden, she stumbled upon a magnificent lily pad. Sitting atop it was a frog. A big, green, rather slimy frog.

Amara, without a moment's hesitation, exclaimed, 'How dreadful! What a disgusting creature! I hope the garden doesn't have any more slimy frogs!' and she scurried away, unable to muster an ounce of empathy.

The frog, however, overheard everything. He wasn't offended, but he felt a flicker of sadness. He was a prince, transformed into a frog by a wicked sorceress, and he needed a kiss from a princess of pure heart to be freed.

Over the following weeks, Amara continued to look down on all of the animals in her kingdom. The squirrels were not elegant enough, the bees too busy with their work, and the birds' chirps sounded irritating. Even the kindly old garden gnome was considered beneath her notice.

One day, a terrible storm swept through the land. The wind howled, and rain lashed down, tearing away at the roots of trees. The kingdom was in danger, and the villagers needed help, but Amara, distracted by her own snobbish thoughts, ignored their desperate pleas for assistance.

As the storm raged on, she realised the seriousness of the situation, and that the animals who she previously disregarded were her best allies and friends. The squirrels, bees, birds, and even the gnome were working together to help everyone. Amara, finally humbled, asked for their assistance and together they overcame the crisis.

Seeing Amara's kindness towards others, the wise old owl, who had witnessed everything, explained to the princess, 'True beauty comes from within, not from outward appearances. A kind heart shines brighter than any crown.'

Amara realised that she had been wrong to judge the frog, or anyone, by their appearance. She approached the frog, who was still sitting on the lily pad, with a genuine smile. 'Please forgive me,' she said softly. 'I was wrong to judge you.'

The frog, touched by her sincerity, gladly accepted her apology and, with a grateful hop, whispered, 'Your kindness has broken the spell!'

And just like that, the frog turned back into a handsome prince. From that day forward, Amara was known throughout the kingdom not only for her beauty, but for her compassionate heart, and the kindness she showed all creatures. She learned that true treasures are found not in jewels and riches, but in the kindness of the heart.
