Zola the Zebra's Kind Bedtime Stripe Adventure

« Back to Topic

3 min read ・ Age 6

Deep in the golden savanna lived a little zebra named Zola. Zola loved her black and white stripes, which looked like happy piano keys dancing across her fur. But sometimes, when she saw the graceful giraffes or the speedy cheetahs, she wondered if just being a zebra was exciting enough. She was a little shy and often stayed close to her family.

One afternoon, as the sun began to paint the sky with soft orange and pink, Zola was munching sweet grass near a tall acacia tree. She heard a tiny, sad chirping sound. Peeking around a bush, she saw a very small, fluffy bird hopping near the ground. It looked lost and a little scared. It couldn't seem to fly very high.

Zola's heart felt a little squeeze. She wanted to help, but she was shy. What if the little bird was afraid of her big stripes? She paused for a moment, thinking. The little bird chirped again, sounding even sadder. Zola knew she had to try.

Taking a deep breath, Zola gently stepped out. "Hello," she said softly, her voice a quiet rumble. The little bird fluffed its feathers and looked up with wide, curious eyes. It didn't seem scared of her stripes at all. "I can't find my nest," chirped the bird. "I fell out and now I'm lost."

Zola looked up at the big acacia tree. It was very tall! But she remembered seeing a smaller branch lower down where some little birds liked to perch. "Maybe your nest is on a lower branch?" Zola asked. "I can walk slowly and you can hop beside me. We can look together."

The little bird agreed, and Zola began to walk very, very slowly. The little bird hopped happily along beside her big zebra legs. Zola used her long neck to peek into the lower branches as they went. Soon, they came to a branch that dipped low, and there, tucked between some leaves, was a cozy nest! A bigger bird was calling softly from above.

"Mama!" chirped the little bird, and with a happy flutter, it managed to hop onto a nearby twig and then safely into its nest. The mama bird chirped a happy thank you down to Zola. Zola smiled, feeling a warm, happy feeling spread through her chest.

As Zola walked home in the soft twilight, her stripes felt brighter than ever. She hadn't used speed or height like the other animals. She had used her kindness and her willingness to help. And that felt better than being the fastest or the tallest. She realized her stripes weren't just stripes; they belonged to Zola, the kind, helpful zebra. And that was more than exciting enough. She snuggled down for sleep, dreaming of happy hops and kind hearts, knowing that being herself was the best adventure of all.
